gail souare executive director
Gail Souare, Executive Director,
Gail Souare has undergraduate degrees in Business & Administration and Economics from Southern Illinois University. After serving three years in the Peace Corps in Mali, West Africa, Gail obtained a Masters degree in International Public Health from the University of Alabama-Birmingham. In 1997, Gail was recruited to join the Alliance Healthcare Foundation in San Diego where she developed her expertise in the field of aging and became very active with the American Society on Aging and Grantmakers in Aging. Gail is a contributor to the Encyclopedia of Aging and Public Health, in which she also co-authored one of the introductory chapters.

DwightBunce
T. Dwight Bunce, Director of Finance,
Dwight Bunce began work at the Council in June 2007, having previously worked for El Centro Hispano in Durham. He received in B.A. degree in Political Economy from Williams College and completed all the requirements except the dissertation for a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. His experience includes many years working in developing nations in projects sponsored by the Peace Corps, the U.S. Agency for International Development and the United Nations.

Jean Carden
Jean Carden, Director of Development,
Jean Carden, a Durham native, was the Director of Duke Hospital Auxiliary for 35 years where they ranked number one nationally in fundraising. A graduate of the Disney Institute of People Management in the Healthcare Industry, Jean is currently the President of the Duke University Retirees Association and VP of The Duke University Campus Club.

Elan Easter, Director of Senior Center Programs,
Originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Elan Easter has been with the Council since 2007. Elan is responsible for the congregate meal and transportation programs as well as managing the satellite senior centers.

champe revis executive director adult day health
Champe Revis, Director of ADH,
Prior to coming to the Council, Champe Revis was Executive Director of the Mental Health Association of Northern Virginia. With twenty-three years experience in fund raising, Champe was the Director of Development for the Council and completed a $1.5 million campaign for the Durham Center for Senior Life. She has a Bachelors degree from Longwood University in Virginia. After the DCSL opened, Champe made a career change and took on the position of Director of Adult Day Health in 2006.

Michelle Reynolds
Michelle Reynolds, Assistant Director of ADH,
Michelle Reynolds received a Bachelor of Arts degree from York College and a Master’s degree in Social Work from Norfolk State University. Her experience includes working with children and families, adults with mental illness and the geriatric population.

Juanita Allen Nelson, Director of Social Services,
Juanita Allen Nelson is a Certified Information and Referral Specialist, AARP Safe Driver Instructor and Carfit Event Coordinator. With over 15 years experience working with older adults, she also coordinates the Family Caregiver Support Program.

Debbie Webb-Ogundele received a Bachelor of Social Work degree from Livingstone College and a Master of Public Administration degree with a concentration in Gerontology from North Carolina Central University. She has over nine years experience working with older adults, and has been with the Council since 2000.

Jasmine Hawthorne holds a Master’s in Public Health in Health Education from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro and has worked in the field of health for over ten years. Her areas of expertise include health communication and social marketing.

Lauren Martell, Administrative Assistant,
Lauren Martell has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Miami University of Ohio. A student of music and dance, Lauren also instructs the Council’s belly dance classes.

Lynne Chamblee, Health Insurance Specialist,
Lynne Chamblee received her Master’s of Public Health in Health, Behavior and Education from UNC-Chapel Hill. She is a Certified Information and Referral Specialist and a Master Trainer of the Living Healthy Chronic Disease Self-Management Program. Lynne has been with the Council since 1994. Currently, she is the coordinator for the Seniors Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) for Durham County.

JoAnna Pittman grew up in Madison, MS and attended Asbury College in Lexington, KY where she received a degree in English. She has been working at the Council since August 2009.

A.J. Barks has degrees in English, Communication Studies and Gender Studies with a minor in Political Science from Truman State University. A Missouri native, A.J. has been with the Council since September of 2009.
