Operational Policies & Facility Use Regulations

The Council for Senior Citizens plans, advocates, coordinates and provides comprehensive and accessible activities and services at Durham Center for Senior Life through the following three core programs Monday – Friday from 8:30 am – 5:00 pm.
  1. Social and Senior Center Services
The Social and Senior Center Services Program addresses strengths and needs of Durham’s older adult 60 years old and older and those who care for them.  Components of this service include:  Information and Case Assistance; Outreach Marketing; Transportation; Health Promotion; Caregiver Support and Activities and Special events.

  2. Congregate Nutrition
The Congregate Nutrition program is designed to assure that Durham’s older adults 60 years old and older, who often eat poorly due to isolation, physical, or emotional problems have access to a balanced noonday meal with supplemental nutritional education.  Reservation for lunch must be made 24 hours in advance.  Register with the Senior Center Manager or call 688-8247.  Menus are posted at Durham Center for Senior Life, at satellite senior centers and in the Senior Post. Donations are appreciated.

  3. Adult Day Health Care
Adult Day Care Services provide an alternative to more costly institutional care for older adults who need supervision at all times, as well as offer their loved ones respite from the daytime demands of care giving.

Solicitation

No solicitation or private sales from vendors may take place in the Durham Center for Senior Life or any of the satellite senior centers.  Program presenters may provide information but cannot solicit business.

Charitable Contributions and Solicitation

No organization may solicit contributions, sell fund raising items or raffle tickets, without the permission of the Executive Director and/or the Council for Senior Citizens Board of Directors.

Gratuities and Gifts

Council for Senior Citizens employees are paid to perform their assigned duties and should refrain from accepting gifts or other favors where it might appear that these are designed to influence the individual in the performance of his/her duties. Permissible are the acceptance of gifts of a small value that are of such nature as to indicate tokens of respect or friendship.
